Medicare Supplement Plan G

Medicare Supplement (Medigap) policies are sold by private insurance companies and help pay for some of the out-of-pocket costs, such as copays and deductibles, that Original Medicare does not cover.

Medicare Supplement policies are standardized, which means that plans of the same letter type, such as Plan G, must offer the same basic benefits regardless of the insurance company offering the plan.

Plan G is one of the most comprehensive Medigap plans that cover most of the out-of-pocket costs, but not all. It covers:

  • Part A coinsurance and hospital costs up to an additional 365 days after Medicare benefits are used
  • Part B coinsurance or copayment
  • Blood (first 3 pints)
  • Hospice care coinsurance or copayment
  • Skilled nursing facility care coinsurance
  • Part A hospice care copayment
  • Part A deductible
  • Part B deductible
  • Part B excess charges
