Medicare Advantage plans must cover all the services Original Medicare covers, including hospitalization and doctors visits. Unlike Original Medicare, all Medicare Advantage plans cover emergency and urgent care. Many Medicare Advantage plans also include additional benefits such as Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage, dental services, vision and hearing services, wellness programs, and more.
Beneficiaries who enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan will still pay their monthly Part B premium. Most Medicare Advantage plans have a monthly premium, in addition to the Part B premium, to cover the services included within the plan. Each plan has different costs so it's important to explore your options and understand that plan's benefits and associated costs before you enroll.
Medicare supplement insurance offers coverage that helps you pay out of pocket costs, such as copayments and deductibles. A Medicare Advantage plan is a way to get your Original Medicare benefits, plus additional benefits such as dental services, hearing and vision services, wellness plans, and prescription drug coverage.
